Q. What is a Affinity Group?
A. A Affinity Group is something like an email list or as some call it, a listserv, but with more than just an email conversation component. It is more similar to a "Yahoogroup," if you are familiar with those. There is an email interaction component of each Affinity Group, and there are archives of the email messages for each. There is also a Shared Library of resources and stories that Group Members of the Affinity Group (and visitors, if the Affinity Group is open) can use and contribute to. Each Affinity Group also has a Wiki Notebook, which is like a Web site for shared use by the Group Members (see Wikis). Like email lists, Affinity Groups have moderators and Group Members. Anyone can join if they are open; if they are closed, then new Group Members must be approved by a moderator. They can also be public or private. (See How do we make our Affinity Group private?) In a private Affinity Group, conversations, etc., are not viewable by non-members.
